A rocking chair is perhaps the most comfortable type of chair available in the markets. However, going to the store and buying the first rocker that you come across is not the right way to choose one. The curved base of the chair is known as the rocker. This is the most important part of the chair, without which it would not rock properly. When buying any rocker, be certain it’s pitched properly. If you get a feeling that the chair might tip over, the chair is not pitched properly.
However, if you can rock comfortably, and there is no chance of tipping over even when you use the chair as a recliner, then the pitch of the rocker is perfect.
Size of the rocker
First things first. Make sure that the chair is the right size. With the right size for you, your legs should reach on the floor comfortably. Your knees should not appear raised close to your chest as this indicates the chair is smaller.

Does the rocker have a smooth back and forth motion? Are you able to keep it going for a couple of minutes with a single push, or do you have to push the chair every few seconds? The comfort factor
The chair should be absolutely comfortable for you. Your hands should reach the armrests comfortably and should fit on them properly. The seat should have a downward slope and should support your lower back too. In addition to being firm, the back and the seat of the chair should be flexible. In other words, if you are not 100% comfortable on the chair, do not buy it.
Your budget
Rockers and gliders can be available for as less as a few hundred dollars and go up to thousands of dollars. Thus, your budget will be a big factor when choosing a chair. A good way to save some money is to buy used chairs. As long as the main rockers of the chair are in perfect condition, most used gliders and rockers can be restored to look as good as new.
While safety and comfort are the two main criteria when selecting a rocking chair, you should take care to choose one that fits in with the décor of your home. No one will appreciate a monstrosity in the middle of the living room, even if it is a highly comfortable one. Thus, look around to find a rocking chair that fulfills your needs and is attractive looking.
